How did you first discover fingerboarding, and how long has it been?
Β I’ve actually been fingerboarding for two months, today! π₯³
How I got into it though is kinda funny really. I was shopping with my mum, before leaving home to start rehearsals for a musical theatre UK tour, and I saw a plastic fingerboard in one of Lidl’s bargin bins, it was similar to the old-school Tech Decks. Anyway, I picked it up and my mum wanted to buy it for me because it would be the last toy she buys her baby boy, before he leaves home and becomes a man.
So I’m on tour and I have this fingerboard, unopened in the bottom of my suitcase, so I decide to try and learn how to Ollie, because I’ve never been able to do one as a kid, with my Tech Decks.
After watching a couple of videos on YouTube I eventually learn to Ollie and now my YT feed is pushing more and more fb videos, so I start watching stuff like building a fingerboard park and that got me thinking back to when I built one, out of cardboard, at my grandparents, when I was a kid.
But I think what really pioneered my journey was making my JankAllowed Instagram, YouTube and TikTok accounts and seeing that people were enjoying watching me learn this new hobby.
I managed to pick up four sponsors in my first two weeks of posting and had been contacted by two more in my third week which I never would have thought would happen, but it did and the feedback that all six of the sponsors gave me was that they loved how happy my videos were and I can thank all that on my mum for raising me to always try my best to smile, even on a bad day π
