Terms of Use

Please read these Terms of Use carefully. They contain important information about your rights and responsibilities when using the Library of Human Experience.

Effective: May 4, 2026
Last Updated: May 5, 2026

By accessing or using the Library of Human Experience, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site or services.

These Terms may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be posted here with a new “Last Updated” date. Continued use means the updated Terms apply.

1. Who Can Use the Library of Human Experience

You must be at least 18 years old to submit content to the Library of Human Experience.

You may browse and read published stories if you are 13 or older, provided you meet your local legal age requirements.

2. What the Library of Human Experience Is

The Library of Human Experience is a storytelling and archival platform where people share authentic personal experiences through text and voice submissions. These stories may be preserved and shared in different formats — such as written features, audio pieces, or video content — based entirely on the contributor’s consent.

The Library of Human Experience:

  • Is not a social network
  • Does not include comments or public user-to-user interaction
  • Allows optional accounts solely for bookmarking and saving content
  • Exists as a curated archive of lived experience, reflection, and human perspective

You can explore all published stories without creating an account.

3. Your Content & Ownership

What you own

When you submit content to the Library of Human Experience, you retain full and exclusive ownership of your story and all related materials, including:

  • Your original submission
  • Any voice recordings, text, or materials you provide
  • All edits, versions, adaptations, and final published formats
  • All rights before publication, after publication, and after removal

Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of your content.

Any editing, formatting, or production performed by me is done solely as a service to you and does not create ownership, co-ownership, or derivative ownership rights.

Your ownership rights are governed by the applicable Submission and Release Agreement, which controls in the event of any inconsistency.

What you license to me

By submitting content, you grant me a non-exclusive, revocable license to publish, distribute, preserve, and promote your content:

  • Only in formats you have explicitly agreed to
  • Only for the purposes described in your submission agreement
  • Only for as long as your content remains published

This license does not transfer ownership and ends upon removal, except where continued display is technically unavoidable (such as third-party caches or archives beyond my control).

Content standards

You agree that your content will be:

  • Truthful and not intentionally misleading
  • Your own story that you have the right to share
  • Free from content promoting violence, harassment, or illegal activity
  • Respectful in tone, even when discussing difficult experiences

4. Third-Party Requests

Because you own your content, third parties must obtain your permission to use it.

If someone wishes to feature or license your story:

  • Requests are routed according to your selected preferences
  • I contact you first
  • Your email is only shared if you agree
  • You control all negotiations and keep all revenue
  • I take no fees from any arrangements

You may change your preferences at any time.

5. Removal Rights

You may request removal of your content at any time using the removal request process.

  • Content will be removed from platforms I control within 7 days
  • Promotion and distribution will stop
  • Complete internet removal may not be possible due to third-party platforms, cached copies, or archives beyond my control

6. Prohibited Activities

You may not:

  • Interfere with or disrupt the platform
  • Access non-public systems or data
  • Upload malicious code or harmful software
  • Violate laws or others’ rights
  • Scrape, mine, or harvest data
  • Submit false or misleading information
  • Use the service fraudulently or abusively

7. Platform Rights

What I own

The Library of Human Experience name, branding, structure, and underlying technology belong to me. You may not use the project’s branding without permission.

Content moderation

I may remove content that:

  • Violates these Terms or applicable law
  • Contains abuse, harassment, or discrimination
  • Infringes others’ rights
  • Creates legal or operational risk

I reserve the right to investigate suspected violations and take appropriate action.

No endorsement

Published stories represent individual experiences and perspectives. Their inclusion does not mean I endorse or verify every statement made.

8. Privacy & Data Use

Your privacy matters.

  • Account data (if you create an account) is used only for bookmarking
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials

Full details are explained in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

Governing law & jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in your place of residence. Nothing here is intended to override or limit your local legal rights.

You are responsible for ensuring your use of the platform complies with laws in your location.
