Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from and how did fingerboarding come into your life?
My name is Mikey Stanley Born 91′ in Richmond Virginia raised in Hopewell Virginia. I remember being a baby chewing on those clear plastic fingerboards given to me by my older cousins.
Is skateboarding part of your life at all, and how does it relate to fingerboarding for you?
Yeah I love skateboarding when my older cousins would visit me, and they would have their skateboards I would always lay or sit and scoot around on it. Then for my 7th birthday they got me a tech deck. I remember specifically the orange bushes on the tech decks I thought that was the coolest part of it not sure why but I would try to do tricks with it I wasn’t too serious with it until One day around the same year I went to a friend’s house that live behind my house and they had a old school DC/ marvel comics skateboard the super wide and heavy ones and I jumped on it and it whipped me back and I busted my left elbow wide open. That’s when it clicked I’mma figure this out pretty much everyday since then I would ride on a little wooden fish board they let me borrow and take home I’ve been skateboarding ever since then!
Who were some of your earliest inspirations in skating or fingerboarding, and how did they influence your style?
Definitely Tony hawk when I found out about professionals. A big part that got me and my 2 neighborhood friends that live behind me was the show rocket power and the first Tony hawk game, we had started our own little skate crew and skated everyday at the local skatepark. My favorite pros at that time we’re from the game was Eric koston was my favorite along with Jamie Thomas and Chad muska.
What was your first setup like, and what companies or riders stood out to you at the time?
My first set up was a wooden fish board I would ride around until we got Walmart decks and we would really try with those. My first pro board that I remember getting was a birdhouse Tony hawk falcon 3 it really took off from there.
What keeps you motivated and coming back to it?
My friends the homies we would hype each other up to get better and seeing the other bigger kids doing gnarly tricks and watching skate videos!
